2017 Transat (OSTAR/RWOSTAR) running into some problems

That's messed up weather to race through singlehanded. Does anyone know much about this race? I read its history on their webpage, but get a sense its been condensed and sanitized. One of the articles I read was from the rescue of the young Italian man. Maybe it was his translation, but every other word was how "lonely" he was, which seemed odd given that he has done Mini TranSats. Does that kind of weather make you lonely? Or maybe he felt very much alone, which is what it must feel like getting pounded like that.
