2018 SHTP and a Documentary

Hello All,

I am going to do the race again in 2018 on my new boat Cassiopeia (Haunani was sadly destroyed by the shipping co on her way home :-( ) who is a Hanse 371. I want to honor the women who have gone before me as well as answer a few questions I have by doing a documentary about women in solo offshore sailing and the women of this race in particular. I am looking for history, contacts, thoughts....etc! I am very very excited about this project and hope to talk to many of you as time goes on. My personal email is [email protected] and I would love to hear for you if you feel so inclined or have anything you would like to share! AND......I would love to see more women at the start line next year...how about we make it a record year for women participants??? Fair winds to you all!

There is probably some stuff to be found in "Not a Yacht Club" by J.P.

It looks like there were 16 female entries to date. Not all finished, and I see a couple FADs on the table.

Greatest number of female starters was in 1980, with 3 starters.

Great to hear you have bounced back so well, already have a new boat and are thinking about the next SHTP. If you're successful increasing the number of female starters in the 2018 race then I may have to rethink my plans next year. But I might need a while longer for Sailor's Amnesia to set in first.

Yes, there is. I recently bought and read the book, and there's an extended interview with one of the women racers that was one of the best parts of the book. I don't have my copy at hand, so I can't tell you her name or year(s) of SHTP, but it's well worth looking into for what you are doing.

Hi Bill!!!! So nice to hear from you! I have thought of you often since our race. I hope you and your family are very well! I am very excited about my new project, adn about getting ready for another crossing in my new boat. She is a lot faster and I am already learning a lot from her. I really want to get the word out for more women, so if you think of anyone let me know! I hope our paths cross again soon! Take care!!!
