2022 Singlehanded Golden Globe Race

The 2022 edition of the Golden Globe singlehanded non stop round the world race for traditional boats started yesterday with 16 skippers.

The race website is a great source of information on equipping a boat for extended singlehanded offshore adventures.
 
In 2000 I was teaching in London and visited Greenwich many times, where "Suhaili" was on display in the Great Hall. In the usual low key British style she was roped off with crimson velvet line supported by golden stands designed to keep visitors away, but not too far away. i have to admit that on each visit I checked the security guard and then quickly reached over the barrier to touch the gunnel for a few seconds. It's as close to sailing around the world as I'll ever get. But I'll be thinking of those few seconds on my way down to HMB on the 17th.
