Saturday's race ended with 12 finishers plus 2 boats that retired but motored up to anchor overnight for the chance to race Sunday.
Sunday's races started in heavy enough fog that Milly reported difficulty seeing the DB buoy from shore at times. Fourteen YRA & SSS entries started over the period from 0945 to 1010.
No boats retired outside the bridge. Once inside the bridge, several spinnaker-carrying boats found themselves well north of where they could reach in under spinnanker to St Francis "A" and struggled a good deal to round the finish mark. One boat got a nasty-looking spinnaker wrap around the forestay and missed the finish entirely; they later retired.
The racers came into San Francisco in a relatively tight clump compared to some of the prior ocean races we have had this year. The first boat, YRA's REVERIE, finished at 13:59:13. The last finisher, SSS's WHITE ROSE, finished at 15:06:39.
SSS Finishers:
* Zaff, corrected time 04:23:22
* Bombora, corrected time 04:24:17
* Freedom, corrected time 04:50:16
* White Rose, corrected time 05:15:14
I'd like to thank the race committee volunteers.
We could not have done this race without Milly and her group from IYC to start the race in Drakes Bay.
On the San Francisco side, I'd like to thank Carliane for volunteering again.
I'm also grateful to St Francis YC for letting us use their race deck.
Thank you for racing with the SSS!
Our next race is to Half Moon Bay on September 9. We plan to meet and distribute shirts there after the race. Please come and socialize with your fellow racers.
