Garmin to Mac

I've been trying to negotiate a talk between my Garmin 76 and Macbook for three weeks now. No luck. I'm using a serial to usb adapter and the Garmin software for Mac. Anyone successful with this? Bob J?

I use one of these, which plugs right into one of the USB ports on my MacBook.

I haven't tried to get my Garmin GPS's to talk to my computer, although I think there's some discussion about it on this board - try under Hardware.

It works

I've communicated from the Mac to Garmin on both Starbuck and Outsider as well as other boats.

You have to change your setup on the Garmin from Garmin-Garmin mode to Garmin-NMEA mode for starters if you already haven't. What solved the communications issue for me several times was the ground. Make sure you are grounding everything to one point since every time I've tried to ground to multiple points I've ended up with a timing issue with NMEA.
