HMB Details. Email from Dave:
Hey all, I am sending this to a few of you so hopefully one of you will make it to the SSS meeting tonight. I am sorry to say I won't be there. I will be flying from Charlotte NC to Sacramento. I will be putting two big anchors out from the corners of our T section on the end of our dock toward shore. And out at a 45 degree angle. As in years past if the first boats can start tying up in the middle of the T dock and Stern tie to the dock pointed away from shore and every big boat please drop an anchor and back in or we can take it outward with a dingy. Big raft up as long as the dock doesn't have a huge load either from wind or waves. It will tear the ground tackle out and set the whole thing adrift. The ferry is available to ride into shore on. Please remember to always park the ferry offshore as a falling tide will strand it on the beach and make it unusable. Showers and toilets will be left open on the back of the club for the evening. Fire pit out front. Water and limited electric on dock. Dave Morris and help will fix a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, cereal and some fruit between 7 and 9 in the club. Donations jar to cover the cost. Our liquor license doesn't allow alcohol from offsite in the building. Bar will be open. Please make reservations if you plan on eating dinner at the club so they can plan accordingly.

Thanks Dave Morris

Sadly, DOMINO wont be going this year,
I am stuck in Seattle dealing with a crisis with my mother.

hope everyone has a wonderful time.

Also, feel free to usurp my 2 meal reservations if anyone is in need.

Best,
DH

Drone during race ??

Hi All,

Did anyone notice the drone, besides me, that blasted by the boats around 11 am , after we were mostly out the gate ?

Race Commette did see and follow the drone. It flew by before the start and was fairly large in size. Not being sure of the legal drone flying rules and because the start gun only shoots blanks, the best RC could do was to scare "it" away with a blank blast but before we could reload is vamosed...

I knew there was a reason I held on to my now obsolete Very Flare pistol...

There was a drone in the start area , being operated by a guy on a bike at the very end of the seawall. If there was one outside the Gate, west of the bridge, that was a different one.

What a terrific, fun, interesting, frustrating race!

Spinnakers out the gate?!!

Fast reaching south. Couldn't hold the symmetrical so went with white sails.

And that wind hole. Yep, Brian called it earlier but I didn't listen. Saw a bunch of boats tacking west, but everything was going so well, until it wasn't. Dangit!!

Finally got back to the breeze, got a kite up and had a nice run to the finish.

Had a great time hanging out at the dock. Groovy dinner at the club, and cool new swag.

Nice gathering at the fire pit too.

A few photos to share too :)

We saw the drone west of GG bridge. It flew up behind me, seemed to hover, move around a bit, re-hover. I thought it might be taking photos, so I waved. I haven't seen any sign of anyone selling any photos.

Summary- great start, first at pin end with speed. I was in first place until Ragtime passed. Light was good for a photo, so I got out my phone.

From the finish stories, it sounds like the winning strategy was to set spinnaker and keep using it all the way to the finish. Some how, I doused three times, once at the big shift just beyond lands end, once on a tight reach into the hole, and once at Buoy #1 at Half Moon Bay, when I should have just left it up to the finish.

This will be good practice for a race with 3 sets and 3 douses.

Windtrip Infinity was feeling a little intimidated.

Steel Nuts crew rousted me about 6 to go fishing. I was awake any way.

Saw this bird at sunrise Half Moon Bay.

Motoring back on Sunday, the SF shoreline reminded me of a beach resort. Every little cove and beach from Crissy field out to Mile Rock had people, tents, swimmers, dogs, etc. There was a guy paddle surfing, no wet suit at fort point. And there was a raft of people floating in pool toys, Unicorns I think, just outside Mariner Cove.

The photos are great ! I tried waving to the drone, then a variety of one hand gestures, the later slowed the drone to a stop and the camera simply stood still and stared. s/v Twist was out there, could she have been the operator ?
