I know, I know, our Half Moon Bay race isn't until September, Jackie, what are you thinking? Well, I'm thinking ahead, that's what I'm doing.
We all know about the damage done to Capitola and Santa Cruz because Skip has told us about that. It's awful and I'm sorry.
These storms have really damaged Half Moon Bay, too, and especially the yacht club's floating dock. You all may know that Dave Morris puts out extra huge anchors every year so we can raft up when we arrive. This year we may have to anchor out, because the floating docks got taken out last week. Here's the gist of what happened, and a photo of the former floating dock in front of the HMB YC:
Last week: "We already lost the docks on the last storm. Next one or two will just make smaller pieces. No internet or power. Been on generator for the last few days. Expect that for another week."
Today's update: "The docks at our yacht club ended up on the beach so we got them back offshore and tied up and the next big storm 2 days later put them on the beach again but dashed against the rocks they were pretty much toast. So I took my telehandler over, lifted them out, and stacked them up, and on Monday and Tuesday, they disappeared into debris boxes and are now gone. We will come up with another dock in the future. The picture attached is of the docks stacked in front of the YC."
What is a telehandler? Who knows? But whatever it is, Dave has one and he used it.
