Hobie 33 - getting ready

Chad Peddy

New member
I have finally found my TransPac boat, Hobie 33.
Enough of you have convinced me to not take a J/24 so I found a Hobie 33.
Now I need a jib, asymmetrical and The Alameda Hoist to work.

Once she is operational I want two full seasons then Hawaii bound.

Congratulations, Chad! What is her name? Looks like two Hobie 33s have done the race. Tease in 2002 @ 14:07:12:10 and Space Cowboy in 2000, DNF. From what I have read, it might be awhile for that hoist. What's Plan B?

That hoist will be ready for you maybe in 2-3 years, if ever. You might max out the length at Brickyard Cove but that's the ONLY 4500lbs hoist left for public use in NorCal.

Plan B is to drop the deck stepped mast and launch at Grand Marina, after Some very needed cleaning.

Space Cowboy's story is kind of infamous....and a good lesson for all. Hobie 33 is a fast ride!!

Chad, I was talking to Panda and he said you might have some issues with the Hobie. If you want to consider another option, my Wilderness 30 is ready to go and for sale. Panda and I have done a lot of work on it to make it a more enjoyable ride to Hawaii.
