Not ezzackly in Hanalei Bay yet, but here is a video from Dennis Maggard, s/v Pamela, from SHTP 2018. That's when we first met him at the Little Yellow House. That's a good story for another day. For now, watch this. It'll make you wish you were there. Already.

Greg Ashby and Dennis Maggard 2023 SHTP Race Committee, on station in Hanalei Bay. Racers won't have to finish themselves like Skip Allan and Norton Smith did in 1978. The SSS may not be a yacht club, but its race committees finish every single racer.

I hate to be so demanding but are there photos and reports from finishes/finishers? I am dying with anticipation!

Are there any traffic jams between the SHTP'ers and the World's Toughest Rowers? There's a LOT of adventurous souls descending on Hanalei this month! Wondering if there were sightings of one another on the way over. My lovely daughter Hunter is rowing across this time next year: www.horizonracingusa.com

We were motoring out on the Sea Squirrel to capture another sailor. It was the middle of the night, with the constellations above us and the towering mountains all around. We agreed that we are privileged not only to be floating on the water in this sacred place, but also to be a small but integral part of this wonderful tradition that is called the Singlehanded Transpacific Race.

While out there in the dark we came up with a new motto for the SHTP and we like it:

The Singlehanded Transpac: Not the Pac Cup. It's So Much More.

And now, here are the photos. Although maybe not all of them tonight because I need a long sleep. Tomorrow there will be more.

The only interaction I have heard of between our sailors and the rowers out of Monterey was this evening when Piyush Arora s/v Horizon radioed in to his wife, Jill Martin. Shortly before he finished the race he had to tack quickly because he was on a collision course with a rower. Thanks for posting.

That would have been Kiwi Fondue. 2,263 miles rowed in 29 days and change! 12 more boats in the fleet. Progress on YB.

Saturday morning the following boats will be heading home from Hanalei Bay:

Green Buffalo with Jim Quanci, Mary Lovely and friends Jeff and Glenn, home to Richmond YC Harbor.

Reverie with Alex Benderskii will return to So Cal

Gary Burton will return to Oregon aboard Elizabeth Ann solo.

Sunday morning Max Crittenden will leave aboard Iniscaw for Southern California.

John Wilkerson returns to Port Madison up in Washington on Wednesday aboard Perplexity with Greg Ashby as crew.

Sean Mulvihill and his wife Kim will return to the Bay Area aboard Jamani. They are members of the San Francisco YC. Will that club greet them when they return under the gate? Dunno.

Did you enjoy watching the race on Jibeset? Tomorrow morning Ray has created a new race and you can watch these boats all across the ocean. Again. This time they will be going from left to right on your screen.

Don’t forget about us little guys! The Pork Chop Express and Gwendolyn head to Honolulu tomorrow where we’ll pull the boats out and pack em up for shipping with Matson. Charlotte, my wife, will be aboard PCX and Synthia sailing with Todd. I plan on leaving with Tortuga on Thursday with my longtime friend and large MV mentor Michael Rogers. I believe Elizabeth Ann is heading out then as well.

Aww, sorry, Chris! Nobody tells me nuthin. Jim and Mary were sitting right there in front of me at the table. How could anyone forget you? Wait'll you see the photo Jonathan took of you and The Pork Chop at the start! And tonight you find out why we asked for your waist size. Can't wait!

Here are Mr Hedgehog and Carl Anderssen, who has the very important job of imbuing respect for the water into the young sailors at the Lihue Sailing Center.
