Donald Francis Eldridge January 30, 1929- December 26 , 2016
Transpac 1980, 1982 s/v Skol, Valiant 32

In 1980 he did not finish. An obviously tenacious man, he returned two years later to finish, though after the deadline. An electrical engineer, Mr Eldridge learned to sail as a child.

According to the SF Chronicle, Mr Eldridge also climbed Mts Kilimanjaro and Fuji. With two partners he started Memorex, "one of the [Bay] area's first computer-generated start-ups". He also founded International Video Corporation. He had lots of kids and twelve grandchildren.
