Interclub Series - Invitation Extended to SSS

Philpott

Cal 2-27 Dura Mater
The Interclub Series of Six Races has previously been open only to members of selected San Francisco Bay yacht clubs. Since the Singlehanded Sailing Society is NOT A YACHT CLUB, our members have been excluded from participation. That will change in 2015 when SSS members will be invited to join this regatta of six races. For $50. What a deal.

I have it on excellent authority that if we are able to muster adequate attendance, there will be a singlehanded fleet. Not a shorthanded fleet, but an actual singlehanded fleet. How was this determined? Well, apparently attention has been paid to the recent significant number of singlehanded registrations in Berkeley Yacht Club's midwinters (thank you for that, Bob Johnston). And although that Club only budged enough to add a shorthanded division (and remember that shorthanded does not mean singlehanded), Ray Irvine assures me that the Interclub Series will offer singlehanded registration.

Tentative dates for the Inter Club Series: April 11, May 9, June 13 (long race), July 11, Aug 8, and Sept 12.

Interclub looks like it could be fun. I like all the Southbay courses, way easier to get to without getting up at 0dark30.

I guess they only had 36 entries last season, nice for them to reach our to our group.

Here is the SSS tentative sched for 2015.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
At the Vallejo 1-2/Season Overall Awards meeting, the membership got a preview of our upcoming 2015 season. Dates are contingent on final negotiations with YRA. Additionally, we will try to have a Cruise-In sometime in June.

Three Bridge Fiasco January 31
Corinthian March 21
‘Round the Rocks April 18
SH Farallones May 23
LongPac TBD
Drake’s Bay August 22-23
Half Moon Bay September 19
Vallejo 1-2 October 17-18

The member survey indicated a strong preference to have essentially the same season for 2015 as we had in 2014. Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey; we had an excellent response with more than 80 replies.

There were a number of comments in the survey about the NCORC equipment and training requirements — these issues continue to receive a lot of scrutiny and debate.

That handheld vhf radio with gps, what's up with that? Is that under scrutiny? I'd like it to be scrutinized off the list.

Inter Club Series Invitation

This from Ray Irvine (Crews Nest, Catalina 34)

FYI! April 11 CPYC
May 9 EYC
June 13 OYC (Long Race)
July 11 SBYC
August 8 BAMA
September 12 IYC

After discussion with the sponsoring Clubs, we have agreed to make a few changes for the 2105 Series.
1. All races will be sailed on the South Bay courses

2. The starting order will be reversed with the high rating monohulls starting first and the miltihulls starting last.

3. The long race (ending at OYC in 2015) will be a pursuit race.

4. If there is sufficient interest (at least 5 boats) we will provide separate fleets and starts for single and double handed boats.

5. All boats – including those sailing in one design fleets – are required to provide either a 2014 or 2105 NCPHRF or BAMA certificate. If you do not have a NCPHRF already, one can be ordered at:

I don't see anything in the 2015 NOR about SSS members being invited --

Ya gotta have faith in something, David. Trust me on this one. If you go into the registration for this race there are options to register as singlehanded or doublehanded. Note that there is no shorthanded option. That is because a distinction has been made. By Ray. In Jibeset. Hoowhee! We got ourselves some singlehanded races!

What does "tentative schedule" mean exactly? I'm putting these in my calendar and scheduling other races with friends on other weekends so it would be good to know when this is set. Also note that the Latitude 38 calendar lists the SSS Corinthian race as March 28.

My posting of the tentative schedule was from back in November. Our official schedule was released with our NOR,and can be found there or here

Lat38 has the Corinthian date wrong

The SH Farallones is May 23

The Interclub Series of Six Races has previously been open only to members of selected San Francisco Bay yacht clubs. Since the Singlehanded Sailing Society is NOT A YACHT CLUB, our members have been excluded from participation. The six race series is now open to ANYONE WITH A PHRF rating (and $50). The races will all be held in the South Bay. Did I mention that Registration is only $50? What a cheap date.

Yet wait! I see only one singlehanded entry! Dura Mater is the only singlehanded entry! Dura Mater is the only entry without a full crew! That means lots of people on bigger boats who really know what they're doing. Big boats with full crew that might trample Dura Mater out there all alone at the marks. How can this be? Say it isn't true! Surely there are more singlehanders out there willing to carry the SSS burgee. If four more singlehanders sign up, we get our own fleet. Waddya say, folks?

I'd get on the bandwagon with this but whereas the SSS race dates fall (mercifully) right after various tax return deadlines this year, the Interclub race dates fall just before them. It's also a longer trip to the South Bay courses from Richmond. Nonetheless, this is a great opportunity to get in some more shorthanding and probably do it in small divisions and generally flat water, so I encourage those of you with short hands to check out this series.

Sorry Jackie, it doesn't look like I can do this series either. Except for possibly those first two dates, the rest conflict with YRA that I'm double-handing with Beccie, and that last one conflicts with my niece's wedding in Vermont. But I know you can hold your own with any fully crewed boat. Just give em the evil eye if they try anything funny
