Leg Straps for PFDs

Ergo

New member
Just noticed that West Marine is selling leg straps for PFDs/harnesses. A few years ago we lost a SHTP vet who was returning from Catalina to the mainland. Apparently he fell overboard and was flushed out of his harness which was found still snapped shut and tethered to a jack line. The proposed MEL for off shore races includes an option for a tether/harness or lifelines. At a boat speed of even 3 or 4 knots it might be a very real possibility to get flushed out of a harness without leg straps. At $29, it's pretty cheap insurance for a worst case scenario.

West Marine's Universal Leg Straps

A couple years ago I bought Mustang's optional crotch straps for my #3184. They attached fine and I've been using them ever since. The loss of Tom K. is what prompted the purchase. Here's a link:

Despite the name, they don't seem to have affected my placement in the choir.
