Lewmar Self Tailing winches

Thanks to Brad Belleville, encore! and Dura Mater will soon have brand new self tailing winches on their cabin tops.
 
Money, (lots!), and winches, (two), were exchanged yesterday @ the South Shore Borg.
I would like to publicly thank the VIP author and columnist whose sharp eyes found the need and the BOGO deal.
Spend so much energy on maintaining and cleaning. This is the first new bling since the tiller pilot.
Initial quick peek at the ceiling looks like straight lay up. Hopefully that isn't just wishful thinking on my part?

Does anyone know why there are smaller threaded holes adjacent to the mounting holes?
