LongPac history

I have my Great Pacific Longitude Race of '93 jacket. So it's at least that old. I sailed it in my Newport 30, but battery problems forced me to turn around about 100 miles out. I remember lots of hand steering and trying to sleep in the cockpit where the motionless tiller pilot held the rudder steady until the boat rounded up & I was back on tiller duty. The trip back was loooong! No GPS, questionable RDF, chart plots, and foggy as Hell as I sailed past where I thought the S. E. Farallon Island was. I got the Atomic 4 started with the hand crank near the lightbucket (which was a large diesel tank with a generator and light on it) and had enough gas to finish the trip with lights and the tiller pilot working most of the time.

I did the '95 LongPac in my H-Boat, if I remember correctly, and it had been around for a while.
