Alerion 38 "Surprise!"
After a line-by-line comparison of the Race Rules and Conditions:
If you comply with the minimum equipment requirements in the 2009 LongPac RRC's, you will have everything that was required for the last SH TransPac, except:
1) Rubbish storage (unique to the last SHTP)
2) A second battery
3) An alternative method of steering
4) A means of position reporting (SSB, etc.)
The 2009 LongPac RRC's add:
1) Heavy items must be secured (this must have been an oversight in the last SHTP RRC's)
2) For doublehanders, a MOB pole (w/attachments) and Lifesling (no DH'ers in the SHTP)
3) An engine
There are other differences due to race duration (amounts of water and food), chart numbers and administrative issues, but the above are the major ones. Of course the 2010 SH TransPac RRC's could include other changes but no one is working on those yet. Based on past history, changes from the 2008 SHTP RRC's are likely to be minor.
