New Boat 4 Sled

That's a beautiful boat, Ants! Sounds like that is a good plan. Will there be a competition? Because surely there will be more than one boat on the water.
DRIFT will be on display on a trailer. There are two rowing events on the agenda, a race and a cruise. While racing would be a community event and far from being competitive, the cruise has appeal. The sticking point is can DRIFT be maneuvered from its display to the beach for launching, and then back to the display location. There is a hand dolly for the trailer. There is also a suitable beach next to the NWMC building, but lots of people on foot to help, or get in the way, TBD.

Hi, Skip! I'll give you a little time to get settled, develop your walking tour spiel, drive down to visit. Do you have a place for Sinbad to lay her weary head?
Synthia, Sally, and Norton Smith are currently cruising south along the west coast of Vancouver Island on CHEETAH, Norton's C&C 38. They are headed for Hot Springs Cove to hide out from oncoming Gale Force/out of season atmospheric river. Ants will see Synthia, Kris, and me admiring DRIFT at PTWBF, Sept. 5-7th

Paddling this morning up to Mitchell's Cove on calm seas, I noticed a distinct lack of small outboard fishing craft. Investigation at the launch ramp showed why: A recent sinkhole has compromised 75% of the launch ramp, leaving only a narrow launch lane on the south side. This is bad news indeed for the fishing fleet. And any trailersailers. Even if there were funds for repairs, it's a major setback for the Harbor which has just begun a 3 plus year seismic repair of the Murray St. Bridge, between the upper and lower Harbors. Local businesses are already closing. Tough times.

After overnighting at anchor in Drakes Bay Sunday, Leo and crew on TALLY HO sailed under the Golden Gate yesterday, Monday, 8/18, afternoon. Under full sail in 20 knots of wind, she was quite a sight. Thanks to Michael and Lisa for the inspiring video and below photo.
As soon as they were in the Bay they switched off their AIS, presumably to minimize gawkers and gain some privacy wherever they were aimed to tie up. Thank you for not mentioning location specifics on this blog.

This unlit, rusty and bird poop buoy used to be located halfway and on range between two foghorns. But no more. It is on station and charted, but not a navigational buoy. And you would prefer not to hit it in fog and/or darkness. For a scoop of any flavor of ice cream at Marianne's Scoop Shop located 1.5 miles due north of the buoy, answer both questions correctly 1) What is the purpose of this buoy? 2) Complete the phrase Semper _________

well I think most people who have been around the waterfront can ID the location on that photo alone. I am not going to leak it on the internet. I hope they enter the SFYC classic regatta this Saturday!

Thanks, Ian! Yes, TALLY HO was at Spauldings. But she has moved...not sure where. With Leo's investment in getting safely back to England ASAP, who knows if he would take time out to race on a crowded SF Bay He might. Just maybe. We raced against TALLY HO on schooner MARTHA last PTWBF.

1) Coast Guard mooring buoy; 2) Paratus.
Your answer is correct, Good Sir. Semper Paratus, Latin for "Always Ready," is the Coast Guard motto and mission statement. Their Santa Cruz mooring ball could use a wash and paint brush lest the bow of their local 87 footer, HAWKSBILL, look like a bloody nose. Looking forward to seeing you at PTWBF Thursday between your bilge inspections of incoming yachts into the confined waters of Point Hudson. Thanks, Lee, for the work you do. ~sleddog

Joan and I took the train from Roaring Camp down to the Boardwalk today...field trip for Anniversary #45. Once the fog cleared, by midafternoon there were easily 20 sailboats out. However I saw exactly two inshore fishing boats, you know, the aluminum open boats that usually congregate along the kelp line. I thought about Skips post from a few days up. up there.
