New Transmission 4 Redsky

Olson 34 Driver
Redsky - Olson 34 - has been without a forward gear for two months. The marina members were asking lots of questions about why she was seen backing down the fairway several times. As of this weekend I have installed a new transmission, exhaust riser mixing elbow, and flywheel damper plate. A short tour of the marina seems to indicate it all works as nothing flew apart. The Hurth/ZF transmission was replaced with a Twin Disc TMC MG40 (Italian build) . Lucky that it was almost a drop in replacement as only the motor alignment and the shift cable needed shimming / moving. Also luckily room was made for the removal of the transmission by inflating a dock bumper under the engine as opposed to pulling the entire engine out of it's little cave. A bit more oil clean up and a touch of copper colored Rustoleum and the boat will be back patrolling the waters south of the Bay Bridge. Engine: Universal 25XP Transmission: HURTH ZF 30 Tranny.jpg

Brian What was the cost of the new Twin Disc transmission? Did a local vendor provide it or were there shipping costs involved? About how many hours were involved in swapping out the new unit for the old Hurth?
