Possible new starting area for Vallejo 1: Fort Mason

fauxboat

Race Chair 0.5
Hello, SSS racers!

In absence of a starting line boat, I'll fall back on the scrappy self-sufficiency the SSS embodies.

For context, I expect light winds in the morning of October 7, coupled with a building ebb.

Requirements as I see them:
* Start from shore, since there's no boat (yet)
* Start line much be:
- plausibly square to wind
- with a well-defined 'pin' at the outside end that no one has to set or pick up
- no shorter than 400'
- no longer than 0.15 NM
- accessible from near sea level
* Minimal additional distance to "classic" race starting at G-OC

So the fallback plan is to either
a) start at Fort Mason docks / YRA-6
b) start at GGYC race deck / "X"

I'll have to lock things down in the next day or so, but please stay tuned and check the SIs when they come out!

And if you're not racing, and have a boat you'd be willing to use for starts at G-OC, please reach out no later than Monday....

You could use the RYC race platform. It was used in the past before the RC felt there were too many boats. We promise to behave ourselves.

I'll offer Surprise! if the RC will kick in for some die$el.

I'd still like to sail up and hang out with everybody, after dropping off the RC.

Given the likely conditions, starting over in SF would suck.

If Bob would prefer to race and you don’t mind working off an O30 (better than swim fins and a rubber duck), we can use Dragonsong. I’ll sign up, but will be flexible about whether to sail or do RC.

Thank you BobJ and Xavier. The SSS is successful because of volunteers like you. I've just sent you personal email.

BobJ and/or Xavier: I got at least 20 gallons left after SHTP in yellow 5-gallon plastic cans. I cant make the race but you are welcome to the diesel in cans. I'm in Palo Alto and boat and cans are in Brisbane but LMK if you want it and maybe we can figure it out.
