Dave
I'm looking for an appropriate work/weather window for a qualifier voyage. The SER stipulates:
"The Qualifying Cruise shall not be less than 400 nautical miles and shall be made entirely under sail, non-stop and singlehanded. The Qualifying Cruise
may be between two ports or may start and finish at the same port, provided that one turning point is at least 100 nautical miles offshore. As evidence of the qualifying cruise, the entrant must submit a log and supporting documentation using a form provided by the Race Committee."
If I were to motor out of the Golden Gate, say to a point a few miles west of the Colregs line, then sailed 400 nm before returning to SF Bay, would that qualify me to do the SHTP? I guess my question is, what defines a "port" for the purposes of qualifying.
I'd like to get the qualifier done soon, then make a decision about committing to the SHTP. This time of year there often seems to be little wind in the outer Bay when conditions are decent offshore.
