seminar videos

Philpott

Cal 2-27 Dura Mater
I have five videos of SSS seminar videos from the first year Jeff Arnst was race chair. What year would that be? The first seminar: Preparation with Peter Hogg and some other guys punching each other and laughing alot. Unfortunately (or not) these are on Hi8 video cassettes. Any suggestions as to how to transfer them to somewhere where members can watch them? Tech Czar Nabors? Perhaps someone with a "capture card" can do this for the club?

I think you will need to go to a commercial service that does these types of transfer. They should give you .mp4 or .avi files on a thumb drive or something, then we can upload to youtube and have nice links on our site.

There are a bunch of places that will do this, it looks like the cost will be maybe $30/hr of play. Do you have a player? I think the club should be able to cover cost.

Here are some East Bay places that do this kind of work

But right around Xmas might be a busy time of year for them.

Maybe someone would like to do this. Otherwise, back into the container they go.

SSS on YouTube

OK, I created a new YouTube channel for the SSS. Here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtaLlSkQRrtppNGBT5CVWhA

We can upload whatever race or seminar vids we like there. I am not sure about how to import or link pre-existing video from other people's channels.

In a truly bizarre coincidence, Google+/YouTube insisted that I give a 'real' name for the account -- they would not accept "SF Bay SSS". So I picked "Barnacle Bill", semi-randomly.

It turns out that "Barnacle Bill" is also the fake name used by someone (Ruben, I think) on Picassa to store some very nice photos from 2008/2010.

Check it out: https://picasaweb.google.com/103113225178112110050?noredirect=1

Where did you post it? My boy (Santa Max) has hinted that he is giving me an action camera for Dura Mater. Since we are most often last in any race, you all will be plainly visible in future videos.

I have a Hi8 playback deck and a Magnavox MDR533H recorder that is supposed to transfer 8mm tapes to digital format. I'm a complete boob with electronics, but I'd be happy to spend an afternoon with someone who could show me how to use the machine by transferring the SSS tapes to digital. I think you transfer the Hi8 tapes to the Magnavox hard drive and then burn a DVD. I know I can watch my old Hi8 cassettes (including several Farallones Races) on a digital TV by using the hookup. I don't know how to do the transfer to DVD. Oh, I'll come clean and admit that's not the only thing I don't know. Pat Broderick

You and me both, Pat. Since I don't watch TV, I don't really know how to operate a remote. Too many buttons.

I'm thinking this was Bill Merrick's collection from the groups shown. The group shot with Bruce and Lina Nesbit, Helli, Jean Novotny and Fred Hess is the 2000 Race Committee, the year Ben raced. That's the TransPac collection. Oh my, what a find!
