SHTP Cruising Division

I was looking through Latitude Letters this morning, apparently there is a big kerfuffle over the Cruising Division in the PacCup. Specifically, Max Ebb wrote a piece (pretty insulting to cruisers, who he personifies as a redneck with more money than sense or seamanship) where he really blasts the whole idea. Funny, because I had thought that 'Max' was a real PacCup insider. Also, many references to "kissing your sister".

Of course, the fictional owner has no problem getting his candidate crew out to longboard his (new?) hull. I am always reading things about how you can get your crew out to do the most laborious jobs. Before I gave up on crew, I felt I was doing well to get anyone competent to show up for a race, let alone doing boatyard stuff.

There were also letters criticizing his recommending that people do 'sneak-aboards', i.e. illegal live-aboads, with the Editor weighing in that it was OK when they did it in the '70s , but now they are old and rich it is not cool.
