SHTP Seminars 2025

Hello!
Below is a schedule of seminars geared toward preparing for the 2025 SHTP

Last time around, we found that the zoom format worked well, particularly for those from outside the bay area.
It also helps that they can be recorded. An Archive of 2022-3 seminars can be found here

So, we're sticking with that, for now... I'm sensitive to the desire to have more FTF interaction; if we can find a venue & technology for a hybrid version we can switch to that.

The Intent-to-Enter fee is due 10/31. There are still just two entries, both multihulls.

Is anyone else planning to race to Bali Ha'i next year?

I was going to wait until I finished my qualifier, but hey, I'm all for saving 50 bucks!

See you in Hanalei Bay__/)__

Sounds like the live meeting is likely getting cancelled on short notice, AGAIN. This scheduled speaker who had lots to share physically in person won't be presenting as I don't have a cam and hate ZOOM meetings. I made a long drive last week only to find out there was no planned meeting that night.

Seminar #1 will be Zoom only, regrettably

To Greg's perfectly valid and understandable annoyance, yet another scheduling debacle with the venue will force us to do this first meeting via Zoom.
I will do my best to muddle thru the emergency rudder topic, but it will lack the irreplaceable ability to reach out and touch the various examples Greg has assembled.

Once we can sort the venue scheduling, the plan is to continue the series in a hybrid fashion, with in-person meetings and an accompanying virtual zoom meeting for those out of the area.

With that said, here are the meeting details for tomorrow evening

If anyone wants to just chat a bit about whatever may be holding you back from joining the 2025 SHTP... autopilot, chutes at night, power, routing, comms, sailing home, money, or whatever... happy to chat/share (after 3 SHTPs, 3 doublehanded PacCups, 16 crewed PacCups, 2 crewed Transpacs, and 9 deliveries back)... [email protected] or 415-640-4461

With a bit of care, prep and practice, you can do it safely, on a budget (sort of), and maybe even "quickly" (if that matters to you ;-) ). But if you haven't started preparing yet, you need to get started right now. The clock is ticking...

Cheers

DaveH,

Is the seminar presentation available somewhere? Like a set of slides, a Powerpoint or something? There were several slides at the beginning of Idefix power budgeting, it would be great to be able to see them standalone.
Yes, I will post it here and to the Website as soon as I get home to the machine it was recorded on (look for it "under the tree" on christmas eve)

Rich, there should be a link emailed to you.
Are you on the email list?

I can forward it to you.
Hit me up at,
gca at goldrush dot com

Many thanks to those who forwarded this to me. Seems that there are others who don't have the zoom link but want to attend tonight, so I hope it's OK for me to post it here... -Rich.

Tonights Seminar will focus on Sails, Rigging, and boat setup.
We will again be gathering at Oakland Yacht club for those that can attend in person, and via zoom.
Doors & bar will be open at 7pm, we will kick off the presentation at 1930, or there-abouts
(link & joining details below)

Our presenter will be Brendan Huffman.

For those of you who don't know him, Brendan Huffman is a sailmaker with UK Sailmakers Los Angeles. He has completed ten races to Hawaii, including two Singlehanded Transpacs and a double handed Pacific Cup. He loves helping customers prep their boats for offshore racing and cruising by helping them decide the best sail combinations for their sailboats, performance goals, and abilities.

Singlehanded Sailing Society is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
