I'm happy to report that after several open-minded and enthusiastic sailors intended to put Starbuck on new paths, including So-Cal, PNW and Race to Alaska, and even a "bulb-erectomy", she will be staying home in the hands of a longtime SSS member. Onward Starbuck!

Stephen, Congratulations to you and the new owner. Good to hear that STARBUCK will remain local and that we will likely see her out racing with the SSS again. Such a special boat that was way ahead of it’s time. I remember when I worked with Myron Spaulding (‘68-‘70) measuring boats for IOR ratings and STARBUCK was all shiny and new. STARBUCK was very different — many considered radical. Most memorable was the 2nd tiller down below (which I understand was later removed) allowing for inside steering.

Love your pictures of the new build. Please keep them coming.

Wow! Starbuck is fast compared to a 225 PHRF Wilderness 21. First time last weekend singlehanded on Starbuck. Tinker could never do 7.5 knots into the wind even on a good day. The SSS South Bay race this weekend should be a good test for me sailing over from Richmond and around the short course on a light wind day.

For many years, Starbuck was parked next to Tinker in dry storage at the Alameda Marina. I've always considered upgrading to something faster than the Wilderness 21 but have been a bit intimidated by handling the larger setup. I'm glad for the opportunity to switch boats and have more fun going faster and farther.

See you all out there!

Matt
