Where do i find out more about the 1978 SSS Transpac, as i am looking for some great stories, photographs and some oral histories. I am exploring doing a sailing documentary on this 1st race (I am a professional shooting producer). Such a great project is going to require some good material, some personal investment and lots of footwork.
I love the first program. There is some super information on the this great 1978 program and I am so glad to see we have a few of our super sailors and others still around that can share the stories. As a teen, i was in awe of these crazy sailors who followed in the Honolulu Star Bulletin. I tried to convince my parents to take me to see the finish in Kawa'i when we were on Oahu for the summer. Lively Lady, the boat i have now and had followed as a young boy in the Canal Zone, was in the program and was to be sailed by Bill Collins who jumped into a larger boat at the last minute. I was wondering if he ever finished the race, more importantly how did the others do. Obviously it was a success and this great tradition lives on. I hope I can help tell such a great shared story.
Thanks!
Ted
