I am extremely disappointed to report that we have not been issued a Coast Guard permit to run the SH Farallones race next Saturday June 13, as we had hoped.
The CG is taking an extremely conservative approach to issuing permits, particularly regarding the need to have relevant county health departments give permission. It has been a struggle to engage with the majority Bay Area counties, with many failing to even respond to repeated requests for meetings (including SF County).
The SSS continues to work with the YRA and USCG to communicate the inherent safety of short-handed sailing as it relates to social distancing and risk of C-19 transmission. We are still hoping to reschedule the SH Farallones, but I am reluctant to commit to a target date until we have further clarity from the governing agencies.
As things stand, we are still planning to run the re-scheduled Round The Rocks race in July. I will keep everyone updated on the timing and race format when we know more.
Best,
