Update Please?

Alerion 38 "Surprise!"
I wanted to attend the SSS annual meeting but as others have posted, "I couldn't get there from here."

Can someone tell us who the new SSS officers are, whether we have a Race Chair, how plans are coming for the Three Bridge Fiasco next month (will there be one?), maybe a preliminary calendar, etc?

You know we changed the name to Secret Sailing Society, right?

Apparently.

I'll try an e-mail to all the last-known board members and see what I can find out.

This is weird for an organization with 200+ members. Is there a problem?

I received thoughtful replies from two board members and I'm reassured that SSS's ship is afloat and listing only slightly.

We will be receiving an update momentarily - if not sooner!

BAMA website has 2019 SSS race dates posted as part of BAMA’s calendar if you want to look and save the dates..Rick

RYC does that. "Attitude Adjustment Hour" is from 7 to 8 and then the business happens. Besides the attitude adjustment, it allows time for those stuck in traffic. SSS meetings are usually pretty short anyway. I'd be down. (I learned that phrase from my daughter.)

Seriously, SSS needs to sort this out. If the board (and others) aren't inclined to post here, we need to connect at the meetings or the organization is doomed.

all - with apologies for by protracted absence from the forum...
that's 100% on me.

Here is a short synopsis of the major updates:

Don Martin is the in coming Commodore of the SSS.

Jim Vickers will continue as race chair, as will the rest of the BOD in their current roles.

Carliane is revising and updating our website.

2019 Season Dates

January 26, 2019 3 Bridge Fiasco
February 23, 2019 Corinthian Race
April 13, 2019 Round the Rocks
May 11, 2019 Single Handed Farallones
July 3, 2019 Long Pac Start
July 9, 2019 Long Pac Time Limit
August 24, 2019 Drakes Bay 1
August 25, 2019 Drakes Bay 2
September 14, 2019 Half Moon Bay
October 19, 2019 Vallejo 1
October 20, 2019 Vallejo 2

We'll get the 2019 season open with Registration for the 3BF in the coming days on Jibeset.
as before, you'll be able to start your season membership through the 3BF registration.

I agree that the challenges of commuting weeknight meetings is contributing to declining attendance and it needs to be addressed.
moving the meeting start times to a more convenient commute time is a good start.
I know Don has some good ideas on this as well.

Last,
I need to raise my hand again and apologize for for my radio silence to date.
Lot's of reasons for the long term "writers block".

Best,
DH

Thanks David!

One comment: The Vallejo 1-2 used to be a week or two earlier and usually had better breeze. More accurately, there WAS breeze. Our races were moved to the third weekend to avoid Vallejo Yacht Club's Change-of-Watch dinner. I (for one) would like to see this remedied, perhaps by making it two weeks (or more) earlier.

I realize the 2019 dates are already in the master calendars, but we have to bite the bullet and fix this or it just rolls along from year to year.

For this year, the Express 27 Nationals are the week before, so that seems to be a conflict.
Valejo is on their long distance championship calendar as well.
We may be locked in to the dates.

I take your point that the winds are demonstrably likely as not to be light by the time we get to mid-October.
I'll let others decide if the date should move this year or next or at all.

SH Farallones OYRA JR Waterhouse

Hi, is there something that can be done to have the SH Farallones not at the same day as the OYRA Jr Waterhouse? Thanks for considering, Jan

I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Jan's question! I really want to do the SSS Farallones Race AND the OYRA Jr Waterhouse. So here's my thanks for considering. Pat B.
