Holokiki started Qualifier

Submarino

Whitefloat
Rusty Roy has started his qualifier aboard his Moore 24 "Holokiki." I received a ping at 1700 hrs near the Golden Gate. He was in good spirits at RYC this afternoon. The conditions will give "Holokiki" a proper shakedown. Rusty reported that he will be doing the Long Pac course.

Cool! Is his track visible?

I don't believe he made his track public, but I will post images as I get updates like this one. He seems to be pinging every 2 hrs.

At 1900 hrs he had progressed 1/3 toward the Farallones from the Golden Gate, but at 2100 hrs he dropped Southeast a tad and is now recorded to be:
Course: ENE at 6.7 kts
N 37 degrees, 44' 58"
W 122 degrees, 37'15".

Closest Buoy 46026 report located 18 Nmiles west of GG: NW wind 15-20 knots, Wave heights about 10 feet every 10 seconds, mixed NW and SW swell.

Rusty texted that All is well and that he will be going again with a different plan.

Fair winds, Rusty. Keep us posted -- or at least keep somebody posted. We're all pulling for you. Might be odd for someone like me, on a fat comfy croozer, to root for a Moore 24, but I am amazed at those boats. If memory serves, a double handed Moore 24 sort of did OK in the 2016 Pac Cup. kinda sorta maybe?

Gitter done, Rusty! I'm really hoping to sail to Hawaii against HOLOKIKI.

Good luck on your next try, Rusty! The one good thing about a lot of wind is that you get through it more quickly :)
