2026 Cruise Out

"Will digital photos of my oldest SSS t-shirts get a digital reward?"

Dear Sir
Please submit your digital contributions and they will considered by the same committee as will judge little Lucy in the Cutest Chick contest. Prize winners will be notified on this forum.

Since I won’t be at Petaluma, this is not an “official” entry, but it addresses Ants’ question about t-shirt years. Have a great cruise. The Butter & Egg Festival is amazing.

Very nice, and I am a nose behind in the earliest t-shirt. Since I started as race chair in 1983, I am sure I ordered it amd got it to you.

Those early t-shirts are a fond mmemory.

Well, that was a lot of fun. Too bad the wind was on the nose all the way up river and then again all the way down river. Other than that, the company was swell, the weather was perfect and all in all it was a fine and successful 2026 cruise out.

Unfortunately Little Lucy did not win the Cutest Little Chick contest. There were 65 little chicks in the running and Bob refused to bribe the judges. HUH? It was a travesty of justice but the Johnston family bore the burden of defeat with grace and equanimity.

Don Martin and his wife Siobhan Williams came on Crinan II, Paul Descalso on his Sobrante, Jeff Froula on Pelican, Bob on Surprise! and I on Dura Mater. We motorsailed up the long channel and longer river to the city docks at Petaluma. They are wonderful docks and everyone was very nice in town.

I have written all about it for the June edition of Bay and Delta Magazine which will come out Mid May. I will post it here then.

In the meantime, here are some photos. I took almost thousands. Hundreds anyway.

We met up with Paul at the entrance to the San Rafael channel.

Here we are in Petaluma at the city docks

The countryside was drop-dead gorgeous with every color of green imaginable.

And I still can't understand how this pretty little Johnston baby didn't beat out the other 65 babies for first place.

We ate a lot of food, watched the Warriors game in a Brew Pub - or at least Bob and Jeff did. Here are some more photos
Thank you to Siobhan for this one:

Yes there were dorky prizes. That hat on Bob? That's from Richard Reitmeyer. And the hat on Don Martin? Which he said he loves? He wore it all weekend. It's a sun hat with a bee keeper's netting built into the brim.
Thank you, Richard. Bob gave away all the dorky movies that he had gotten from past cruises although we couldn't watch them because Daniel Willey wasn't there with Galaxsea. Maybe Don will bring his Captain Ron to Vallejo I-2 and we can all impose upon Daniel then. I will bring popcorn.

Three boats came to last year's Cruise Out in Clipper Cove. This year there were five boats. We'll see what happens next year.
