Accommodations at the Corinthian

Hi All,

For the rendezvous at the Corinthian on the 10th, what can we expect in terms of berthing? Will we have slips, will we be rafting up, will we be anchoring and will we have power available?

I should probably wait for the RC Mistress to speak up, but I'll pass on what's happened in the past.

In most years, there have been slips available for all the TransPac boats, or if not slips, side ties. Every now and then, someone rafts up to a bigger boat, but mostly boats are in actual slips or side ties. The slips have electricity and water. The Corinthian YC is in Tiburon, which to be blunt is a really High Rent district. There is one motel in Tiburon, it's very nice and it's rather expensive. 20 Minutes down the two-lane "highway" that leads out the Tiburon Peninsula to the town, there are more choices of lodgings.

There are two grocery stores in Tiburon, and they're well stocked, though "budget" they're not. You can get ice there. There's a basic hardware store, but no chandlery. However, Sausalito, which is sort of Yacht Central, is only a 25 minute drive away and there's a West Marine Products store as well as outboard fix-it places, canvas shops, sail lofts, etc. You could even toss your 15 HP outboard motor on your planing inflatable dingy and zoom over there if you really wanted to.

If your out-of-town visitors want to shop for expensive womens clothing, have an aromatherapy session, or find a really cool artisan knickknack for the yard, Tiburon is your place. There's also ice cream.

Access to the yacht club is pretty casual, you don't have to show a membership card or anything.

You'll have to get to the club docks under your own power, but there *might*...maybe be a big inflatable to help you get into the slip that's assigned to you. Maybe. But don't count on it. It's OK, you'll still have the use of your engine as the committee doesn't seal your prop until you're there. When time comes to depart, there's at least one big inflatable, and sometimes another good sized open powerboat with a big engine that will tow you out into Raccoon Straits if you want. Most bigger boats utilize that. Some smaller boats just sail out. After all the boats are out, the inflatable and the other powerboat usually offer to take family and friends out on the water to watch the start. However, the view from the Corinthian YC race deck is the proverbial million dollar view and it's great for watching the start.
