SSS Cruise-Up-The-Napa
For the first time, we won’t rendezvous in McCovey Cove @ Noon.
Instead, we’ll meet up between Southampton Shoal and the entrance to Potrero Reach @ approximately 37 54 02234 N, 122 24 04759 W
November 7 @ Noon.
Once through the San Pablo Bay and up Mare Island Strait, we’ll go under the Vallejo-Mare Island Causeway Bridge which is just past the Vallejo Municipal Marina.
It’s probably best to ask the Bridge Operator for an opening when there are several boats ready to go through all at once. Wait for each other so the bridge operator doesn’t have to open it too many times. Bridge operators are reached via VHF channel 9.
Once through the Mare Island Causeway Bridge, keep an eye on your depth finder and stay between the channel markers.
Continue on through the Brazos Railroad Bridge, which remains open.
Its coordinates are: 38 12 32800 N, 122 18 24212 W.
The Brazos Railroad Bridge looks like this:
Charlie’s dock is located to port just past the Brazos Railroad Bridge @ 38 12 43071 N, 122 18 32662 W
If you pass the Napa Valley Marina to port you’ve gone too far.
If you arrive after dark Charlie’s dock will have lights strung and his neighbors have agreed to take some of his boats off his dock so we can tie up to it. If there are too many of us some boats will anchor and get lifts to and from the dock on each other’s dinghies.
Remember that Charlie’s dock is Not A Yacht Club and his house is off limits, so don’t ask to use the bathrooms. Be Prepared. Bring your own food and drink. Bring your own folding chair and masks.
