Flares SHTP 2025

SAILOR
Checked in with Landfall Navigation to day and asked if there was a limit on a flare order. There isn't.
We can pool our needs and make one order and share the hazmat charge.
it would have to be shipped to one location, either to me or maybe RYC. (I'l have to look into that.)
We could place an order May 20 or so, takes a week to process and ship out, to arrive early June. Pick up pre-Race for final inspection.
Could be done sooner if everyone is on board.

I can set up a Venmo, orders will need to be pre-paid.

The SER Section 3.6.2 currently notes a requirement for (i) 4 solas red parachute flares AND (ii) 4 solas handheld red flares. Dave H was going to look at this requirement and get back to us if we need the 4 AND 4 or if the intent was 4 OR 4. Any decision on that yet Dave...???

I was waiting for the answer before posting. When you order flares, make sure you know what expiration dates you are getting. Expiration is MFR+42 mos, and I've seen flares sold that are MFR+20 mos. leaving you less than 2 years. I used DATREX and they sent all my flares with the "best" guaranteed expiration dates I could find. Not going to hijack this thread but there's another bill on marine flares that is making its way through Sacramento https://legiscan.com/CA/bill/SB561/2025 with hearing on Monday 5/5/25. If the Blakespear SB561 bill then passes (which I doubt), it will change things for marine flares in CA. I had a really hard time legally disposing of my old SHTP flares in Santa Clara county. Short answer: donate to Ashley for SAS courses at SFYC around beginning of year or go to an out of county non-government event (if you can even find events now) as they take pity on you; the county events will not take out-of-county visitors as it costs them a fortune for each disposal. I think lifetime of pyrotechnics requirements is limited from what I can see from various organization SER that are switching to more eVDS, but change is slow.
