It all depends on how much westerly, or northerly in the prevailing wind, as to where the San Bruno wind shadow and the venturi sits relative to the entrance.
A hundred yards can be an enormous difference between the two effects. Once you round Hunters Point, stay high and keep a little windage in the bank.
But yes, frequently with anything above zero tide you can go directly to the corner, skipping the channel, and then make a hard right, followed by an immediate hard turn to port to get to the guest and pump-out docks. However, farther back in, up in the #4, #5 and #6 docks, it can get down right tropical. Docks #5, and #6 are especially great spots to be on Friday nights. A liquid, gregarious, friendly bunch, they are.
