Middle of Winter SSS cruise-out

It all depends on how much westerly, or northerly in the prevailing wind, as to where the San Bruno wind shadow and the venturi sits relative to the entrance.
A hundred yards can be an enormous difference between the two effects. Once you round Hunters Point, stay high and keep a little windage in the bank.
But yes, frequently with anything above zero tide you can go directly to the corner, skipping the channel, and then make a hard right, followed by an immediate hard turn to port to get to the guest and pump-out docks. However, farther back in, up in the #4, #5 and #6 docks, it can get down right tropical. Docks #5, and #6 are especially great spots to be on Friday nights. A liquid, gregarious, friendly bunch, they are.

I told her that the 3rd Saturday of January is the Three Bridge Fiasco...which I *think* is right, but I could be off by a week. January 20th. If the 3BF is the 28th, then we could go down there on the 20th.

BYC Midwinters are Jan 13/14
South Beach YC Midwinter is Jan 20th. oops. I bet the 3BF will be on the 27th. Do we know, yet?

You are correct, 3BF will be on the 27th.

OK, if you think you'll attend, sound off... vote for Jan 6th or Jan 20th. I vote for the 20th.

I'll gather "votes" until Friday.

OK, January 20th it is.

Guests welcome. Solo, two-up, three-up all good. "Guest Boats" welcome...as in some Sierra Point YC boats may be joining us.

We are confirmed!

================

Hi Alan.

Yes, we'd love to have your group join us the weekend of January 20th. If we assume 2 people on each boat we'll anticipate roughly 16 to 20 guests for our monthly dinner. Although we don't have many details to give you yet I anticipate we'll have plenty of good food with live music and dancing on that Saturday. We'd also love to have you come up to the yacht club on that Friday evening for our "pot luck" dinner which is more casual but a great way to get to know each other.

I'll put you on the calendar for that weekend and, as we get closer to the date we'll discuss the details. We look forward to your visit. Be sure to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,
Kathy Stern, Fleet Captain

I told her that we had interest from the following...

26 foot sail - S2 7.9 (moi)
27 foot sail - Cal 2-27 (Dura Mater)
27 foot sail - Cal 2-27, but is berthed on Dock 6 in Brisbane (Lanikai)
38 foot sail - Freedom 38 (Kyntanna)
25 foot sail - Dufour 1800 (my dock neighbor, Seitaro)
32 foot sail + bowsprit = 36 feet - Westsail 32 (Tortuga)
38 foot sail - is berthed at Brisbane, has their own berth (guessing this is the size of Rob Tryon's boat)
37 foot sail - Pacific Seacraft 37 (Owl)
30 foot sail - Wilderness 30 (Domino)

That number could change +/- by 2-3 by the time we get to mid-January.

Alan , if you see this, my boat is in Oyster Point. I would also like to come over to the raft up. 36' loa, 12' beam.

You bet, Rob!

Heads up folks! I’ll be pushing for a final head count in about a week and a half!

Turns out that the Sierra Pt YC is having a chili cook-off that Saturday. SSS'ers are invited to contribute a pot of their favorite concoction.

Please confirm that you're planning on coming by SUNDAY NIGHT... (that's earlier than in my last post. Their social chair is pressing me for some sort of commitment).

I'm in with a pot of chili. My dad's people were from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee. Wait'll you taste their recipe. Are we meeting up and sailing down together?

"...cove by the big sports arena..." LOL

Nope. Northeast corner of TI. 10:30 AM.
Tides...Low is around 7:00 AM, High is around 1:00 PM, but these aren't big tides. So we'll start in some flood. The next low is 7:30 PM, which is a -0.1. So that ebb will be significant. We should have some flood helping us partway down the Cityfront and then slack for a while and then a building ebb as we clear Hunters Point.

Or something like that.

We'll do a "Rabbit Start" (I'll be the rabbit) at the north-east end of TI. I'll turn the corner and sail to windward on port. Y'all cross behind me on starboard and head for Blossom Rock. I know I wrote "Alcatraz" last time but it's winter. Let's cut a couple miles off the course. Blossom Rock.

Start - Blossom Rock to Port - Finish

Finish line is off the Brisbane Marina entrance.

Rabbit Start:

The “rabbit” system.... One boat is designated the rabbit. It sails up to the start mark from the left side (looking to windward) and, after
passing below the start mark, steers onto a close-hauled course (i.e., pointing as close to the wind as possible while still sailing) on
port tack. The rest of the competitors have to approach from the right, on starboard tack, and sail between the start mark and the stern of the
rabbit. That’s it.

CURRENT CONFIRMED PARTICIPANTS

Jackie on Dura Mater, Cal 2-27 (bringing chili)
Alan on Wildcat of Loch Awe, S2 7.9 (26 feet)
Rob on...?? What's your boats name, that's up here, Rob? Is that the boat the LaDonna's folks built?
