New Wilderness 21 owner - questions

I am refitting a Wilderness 21 for singlehanded sailing in the bay, and have some questions about the original rig, specifically the mast step. The previous owner mounted it on an approximately 2" high block on top of the coach roof. I would appreciate hearing from current/past W21 owners about the original rig, specifically if the aluminum mast base mounted directly to the coach roof. Also, the rig has only single aft lowers that are terminated in the cabin side and I wonder if it is worth beefing them up by adding a runner glassed into the hull.

Also interested in trimming tips, or chance to sail with another W21 to test trim/speed.

Appreciate any leads to owners or information you can provide.
