Sailing Tomorrow

1 pm meet and greet at Sam's; yes there will be wind. That might be a lie. 3&4 = dunno. Boat in the yard? Sam's is in Tiburon via Hwy 101

Okay, Rags is in. Anyone else want a fancy burger?

I'll take a passenger or two if you want to come to RYC first - Noon dock-off. If so send me a note.

When I went over the San Mateo Bridge this evening around 1830, the water was smooth as glass. Hardly a ripple. I hope you guys have wind tomorrow. I'm going to be cranking out some work, but will be thinking of you :)

That was a lot of fun. I arrived at Sam's first, at about 12:20. There are two long docks at Sam's, with separate gangplanks up to the deck where everybody eats. When I arrived there was only one other sailboat, a Big Catalina, Ohana from Half Moon Bay. And okay, one of those little motorboats in front of Ohana. Red Sky and Ragtime! confirmed they were 20 minutes out. Uh oh, here come more boats. On a Friday in October! Here came a big Erikson, then a massive Fat motorboat that blocked entry for three more boats. Finally here came the two hungry singlehanders, who had to squeeze in between less worthy vessels (okay, I'm biased). The very nice host found us a table in the sun, food was delivered and we ate it while talking about all the SSSers who weren't there. hahaha. And okay, we also talked about plans for the upcoming First Seminar for the 2018 Transpac. Brian told funny stories, Bob told funny stories and I laughed and laughed. I'm a sucker for boat stories. Sorry you all weren't there. Maybe next time? We'll shove tables together so there's room for everybody. Just get there before 12:30.

I’m sailing out of Berkeley tomorrow. Where will DM and I go? Dunno, but I’ll be wearing my down jacket and scarf and wool hat, that’s for sure. Would anyone like to meet up somewhere? Last chance before the relatives descend. Also a better way to reach the city for last minute gifts.

Start the year right!

I sailed last year on New Year's Day and I'll be doing so again tomorrow. Leaving RYC around Noon for 2-3 hours with no particular destination in mind.

For once I can contribute to this thread. I'm going sailing to nowhere but will be giving Pastor Greg some spinnaker handling experience, and generally just messin' about, on Tuesday. Yay.

Last sail of the year for Dura Mater, still the only singlehander in the Berkeley Yacht Club chowder race

Better be out of Clipper Cove by 1430 or so. Minus 1.6' at 1700-ish. Otherwise the raft-up sounds great.

Here's your photo, added much later:

It'll be another warm, sunny day on Saturday with light (but some) breeze. I'm going sailing. Does anyone want to join me?

Come along on Rags, sail your boat and we'll meet somewhere, or whatever, as they say, floats your boat. Please reply here.

I’d love to come sailing except that I am in Monterey! Only one sailboat out down here all day! What’s up with that? Let us know where you go, what you do, what you see?

I went out to the boat, installed the new backstay squeezer, measured the pintles and current rudder straps, and grabbed the VHF to charge it. I also sighed as the club midwinter guys motored out to "race" such as it was.

It was Chamber of Commerce weather on the Bay today. I ran into Del "Blue Light" Olsen on my dock, cleaning up a RYC Foundation boat for a prospective buyer. He was up for sailing after his appointment.

While I was waiting for Del I sailed up to Red Rock to see if I could get around it a week after the 3BF... success!

I picked up Del around 1315 and we had a great sail:

Of course I'm kidding about the Blue Light part. Del is a world class sailor. Here he is, racing in the 2014 IC Worlds:

I'll bet Sled has a story or two to tell about Del.
