FROM CHRIS THIS MORNING:

“473 miles to go, about to enter the coastal flow and I’ll be able to turn off the engine after 48 hours!🤪

Anyone up for going out to bring him safely to his slip? I know, it’s kinda early to be planning this and . . .

Looks like Chris is due under the GGB late Monday. I have something scheduled that evening, so I won't be able to make it out. But, if the arrival time shifts, I might be able to make it ;)

GOT THE FOLLOWING FROM CHRIS AT 11:21 THIS MORNING::

“I'm inside the wind of the windy reach! It's much as forecasted, fortunately! Relatively mellow compared to what it can be. 16 knots with gusts to 23knots. Seas are "bouncy" hard to sleep in this motion. The good news is that there is about 300 miles to the Golden Gate Bridge!!

Arriving sometime Monday is my estimate now, early or late Monday I can't tell you!”

I hope to hop on with you, Bob, if that works out since Bryan might not make it so . . .

Present plan is to be off the dock at 0845, meeting FUGU at Point Bonita at approx. 1100. Wind will be light in the GOF but Chris is jonesin' to start the engine if needed.

SEE UPDATE BELOW.

Update: Fugu's engine isn't running. It is forecast to get very light in the GOF mid-day Monday into Thursday. We'll be standing by as Chris tries to contact someone ashore for engine advice.

I chatted with Chris about his engine. Sounds like he can get it to run for a few minutes and then it stops. He mentioned changing fuel filters. I recommended checking the seals on the filters and running the lift pump with the pre-engine-injector bleed screw open for a few minutes. It's a Universal M35.

My suspicion is the fuel lines are getting bubbles. Mostly because he can get it running, but after a few minutes it stops.

Any thoughts?

Yes, he needs to bleed it from the secondary fuel filter all the way around to the injectors, making sure all the bleed screws are tight afterwards. On mine, I usually have to top off the secondary filter. If he has a spare jug of fuel he can just pour some into the bowl.

The best thing he can do now is SLEEP. Tackle it in the morning.

If you've been watching you know there is NO wind in the Gulf of the Farallones. FUGU is currently drifting with sails down, 34 miles from the Gate. Some wind is expected around 0300. If FUGU can get to the Pt. Bonita buoy we'll go get him tomorrow and tow him in. There is no schedule for this (and it will be with a more suitable tow boat than Surprise!)

Joanie is planning a welcome celebration on D dock at Richmond YC, but the timing is uncertain. If there's any way you can be there, I'm sure Chris would be most grateful. He's pretty low right now. I'll try to keep you posted.
