SV FUGU is coming home!

Here are a few photos from Chris's return: Just as the breeze (finally) filled, a happy Fugu and skipper, crossing under the bridge, and a happy Joanie watching it.

In the second photo you can see the repair to the main boom.

Thanks to all for your support! When the engine died on Sunday evening 100 miles from the GG Bridge I had no idea how the remainder of the passage would unfold! For 24 hours I put my hope and energy into getting the engine restarted, to no avail! Around Monday noon I accepted the fact that i would need to finish under sail. The forecast was not auspicious for such an endeavor!
Monday afternoon the wind available had FUGU on a course of 120-130 T in 2-4 knots of wind, that evening the wind was 0-2knots. I took the sails down, I was near Fanny Shoals, 35 miles from the Gate. I found myself drifting east. At 2 AM a light breeze returned, still 2-4 knots, and I raised sails again, I was now 31 miles from the gate. The wind seemed to come from every direction! Mid-morning I found myself beating upwind in the vicinity of Duxbury Reef, I didn't think I could make the Gate safely. I was seriously considering heading to Drakes Bay and anchoring to wait for more reliable winds to sail into the gate. I didn't want to be sluicing with the tides and no wind at the entrance to the Gate.
I got on the phone with Bob. He said keep coming! I'm all set up to tow you if needed, we will get you home tonight! That was the assurance and safety net i needed to keep sailing to the Gate, thank you Bob, that was a huge service to me!!
