Take Alcatraz

I tweak, therefore I am. Alas, I can't afford to tweak the big things, so I enjoy tweaking the little things. It keeps me out of trouble

This is really fun to see a collection of data about what works and doesn't to get around the Rock (even if I'm not on top of the list.) Here's a detailed ranking with the comments about wind and the current at the time of departure.

I'm going to keep adding to the list of attempts and I hope others will too (I'll try to keep track).

I may make an attempt this Wednesday evening if I can fit it in. The boat is named Rock On, after all.
That's a beautiful chart. I love charts. I also like excel, but that's for money stuff. Maybe somebody is smart enough to use statistical analysis and create a multiple analysis of variance. Never good with numbers, I myself will contribute by posting additional photos of DM's engine in order to jazz up the posts.

My favorite quote from the famous white cup hook thread:

skatzman: "Did it work before you took it apart?"

Philpott: "Yes, but then it stopped."

But wait - grizzly's boat is for sale! Will Philpott's frustration with her inboard cause her to buy ROCK ON? (I suggested long ago that she buy an Olson 25.)

And then what will grizzly buy? Does he need a faster boat to win the Take Alcatraz Challenge? Will it come with a white cup hook? So many questions.

Here's another one: Is that the REAL AntsUiga who just joined our forum? You know, the one who designed the infamous Three Bridge Fiasco?

Reminder: The Take Alcatraz Trophy is on our mantel.

Looks great!
It will be presented to the next sailor/boat to better the corrected elapsed time 1:53:00.

Oh that DOES look like fun! Rain rain and more rain. My kind of weather. Unfortunately (read fortunately) I will be in Wisconsin, where the weather is forecast to be cold, colder, coldest. Last night it was one degree!

You just don't want to lose that trophy, do you, Todd? By the way, it does look great on your mantle. Given the right day and no other participants it could, once again, look good again on my mantle. Keep us posted. Greg Nelsen was eyeing it but he'll have to go through DM to get it.

I would like to propose a modification to the Take Alcatraz Challenge.

The current best corrected time would expire after one year. That way it could be won again, at least every year. It will also free anyone else up to organize a group sail or it could be done solo solo. My time would have expired 12.20.16, so the trophy would go to the best corrected time sailed on/after 12.20.16.

In the absence of substantial objection, this will be the new plan.
